HISD School Board District III

Daniela "Dani" Hernandez (elected 2019)
This seat will next come up for election in 2027.
0s of August 2025, campus libraries are open on only 10 of 32 schools in HISD Board District #3. Only 31% of D3 campuses have access to library support for curricular research projects and a variety of books for personal reading pleasure. Elsewhere on this website, we discuss the many benefits library access brings to K-12 students. Without access to books of interest, students are unlikely to develop the reading stamina required in AP or college classes, not to mention the research expectations of higher education where ChatGPT or Google will not be enough. Students without library experience are less likely to be successful in college courses.

Across HISD, 115 elementary campuses, 34 middle schools and 26 high schools have no library access. What does this say about HISD's commitment to prepare students for higher education and careers including the military where we need our best and brightest to be ready to think on their feet and dig in to find the best answers.
